Measure the depth of connection you truly have with your top clients.
This assessment tool helps Financial Advisors evaluate the current depth of human connection with their top clients. This evaluation serves as a baseline for segmenting the book of clients as well as developing enhanced relationship strategies with chosen clients.
Instructions
- Review list of all clients in the Human Connection Scorecard worksheet below.
- Rate each relationship on the factors below using a 1-10 scale where 1 is minimal and 10 is exceptional.
- Calculate the total score for each client. Maximum score per client is 60.
- Use Client Initials only. Do not enter full client names.
Assessment Scale
- 1-3: Significant development needed
- 4-6: Moderate capability with clear improvement opportunities
- 7-8: Strong capability with refinement needed
- 9-10: Exceptional capability representing best practices

50-60 Deep, trust-rich relationship
40-49 Strong relationship with refinement opportunities
30-39 Functional but not differentiated
Under 30 Shallow connection; needs intentional work
Evaluation Criteria
Personal Knowledge (1-10)
- Knowledge of personal history, career path, and life journey
- Awareness of hobbies, interests, and passions
- Understanding of personal aspirations and goals
- Familiarity with personality traits and communication preferences
Family Connection (1-10)
- Knowledge of spouse or partner and relationship dynamics
- Familiarity with children and their life situations
- Awareness of extended family relationships and responsibilities
- Understanding of family traditions and priorities
Values Understanding (1-10)
- Clarity regarding core personal and financial values
- Knowledge of philanthropic interests and motivations
- Understanding of legacy goals and desires
- Awareness of life purpose and meaning
Trust Level (1-10)
- Client willingness to share sensitive information
- Openness about financial and non-financial concerns
- Acceptance of recommendations and implementation follow-through
- Proactive client communication about life changes
Communication Quality (1-10)
- Depth and openness of conversations
- Frequency and consistency of meaningful interactions
- Balance between listening and advising
- Comfort discussing non-financial matters
Life Events Presence (1-10)
- Involvement during major life transitions
- Participation in significant family celebrations
- Support during challenging periods
- Proactive anticipation of life event planning needs
